Abstract
The study aimed to explore ways to activate the role of the family within drug rehabilitation centers, analyze the mechanisms for involving families in treatment, and monitor the challenges facing these centers in this regard. The study adopted a qualitative exploratory approach, conducting in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of administrators, specialists, and social counselors at rehabilitation centers in Lebanon in 2025. The data were processed using thematic analysis to extract the main themes. Further, the results showed that the family is the cornerstone of a successful and integrated treatment pathway, as family cooperation is linked to improved patient response and stability. It was found that the centers adopt organized mechanisms to activate this role, including periodic visits, reconciliation sessions, awareness programs, and post-discharge follow-up to reduce the risk of relapse, in continuous coordination with families. Accordingly, the results identified challenges, such as occasional lack of cooperation, rigidity in opinions, and blaming the patient instead of containing them. However, the centers seek to overcome these obstacles within their capabilities, bearing in mind that family participation remains voluntary and cannot be imposed, while simultaneously continuing to follow up on the patient until recovery and attempting to address weak family interaction.
