Abstract
Iraq faces complex challenges in light of the political and security conflicts after 2017, as prior political settlements failed to build trust among various groups. This study the nature of post-2017 security and political conflicts and provide national reconciliation strategies to foster peace within Iraqi society. The study used a descriptive-analytical approach of an applied nature, utilizing a mixed methods framework that combines quantitative and qualitative data through questionnaires and interviews. The research population comprises academics at the universities of Baghdad, Mosul and Al-Nahrain, in addition to analysts at the Al-Khobar Media Center, department officials in the Iraqi National Security Advisory, military leaders at the Command and Staff College and the War College, as well as undersecretaries and directors at the National Security Advisory. A subgroup was identified within each segment of the population. The purposive study sample consisted of (128) individuals, representing 20% of each subgroup within the total population. Regarding the qualitative aspect, the study conducted interviews with political, academic, security and religious figures, (23) interviews were held to interpret the questionnaire results and develop strategies for national reconciliation. The study concludes that successful national reconciliation depends primarily on reforming the relationship between political actors and state security institutions. This requires implementing transitional justice, strengthening the rule of law, and reforming the security sector, while leveraging regional opportunities and addressing internal and external threats to ensure sustainable stability.
